BATON ROUGE, La. — LSU baseball won the College World Series in 2024 but it may have some work to do if it is to even make the field in 2024.
In preseason the Tigers were considered one of the nation's elite, but they struggled out of the gate before rallying to win four of its final five season series to finish with a 36-20 mark, 13-17 in the SEC.
But even with the SEC's prowess on the diamond, it may be a stretch to get the SEC to place 11 teams in the 64-team field, which will be announced on Monday, May 27 - Memorial Day.
SEC Tournament Schedule
But, first things first, LSU can enhance its chances by winning a couple of games in the SEC tournament, which starts Tuesday. The Tigers won't exactly be playing at the crack of dawn, but it will be close.
LSU will take on 6th-seeded Georgia in a single elimination game Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.. If LSU loses, they would go home and could do nothing to improve their situation prior to announcement day.
If LSU wins, they'll be in the field of 8 and it's double elimination from there. A Tiger victory would have them playing Wednesday against third-seeded Kentucky in a game that would also start at 9:30 a.m.
There will be four games a day from Tuesday through Thursday with two games each on Friday and Saturday and the championship on Sunday at 2 p.m. on ESPN 2.
Where can I watch?
All of the tournament games are on the SEC Network, except for the championship contest, which will be on ESPN 2. As always, at this time of year, rain or inclement weather could push games back.
