BATON ROUGE, La. — The LSU Athletic Department is working with Baton Rouge city and East Baton Rouge Parish officials to bring a new entertainment and sports arena to the area, according to reports.
Our partners at the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate say the arena plans are included in a new ordinance set to be introduced at a Metro Council meeting on Wednesday. No site has been selected, but the ordinance would convert the Raising Canes River Center into more of a space to host conventions.
"It sounds like the new way to go is it's not just going to be a basketball arena. It's going to be an entertainment type of arena," LSU women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey told NOLA.com.
The PMAC is over 50 years old, and River Center is over 45 years old.
WBRZ reports that a new arena is expected to cost over $300 million, and Tiger Athletic Foundation would have to come up with the money.
