NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana State Police is investigating an illegal sports gaming scheme involving a former LSU football star.
Investigators say they learned that former LSU wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, 21, of Baton Rouge, gambled on sports when he was 20 years old.
Boutte used an alias to get around the legal age required for placing sports wagers in Louisiana. He allegedly placed over 8,900 bets under the alias account between April 6, 2022, and May 7, 2023.
According to police, at least seventeen were on college football games, and at least six of those were bets on LSU football.
Our partners at the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate report that Boutte opened a FanDuel account with a credit card in his mother's name using another person’s name and birthday. The username on the account was “Kayshonboutte01.”
One of those bets on LSU football included a bet on himself. Court documents obtained by NOLA.com showed that Boutte bet that he would score a touchdown and get over 82.5 yards against Florida State in the Sept 4, 2022 game— he did neither.
Last week, an arrest warrant was signed through the 19th Judicial District Court, charging Boutte with the following:
- L.R.S. 14:73.5 – Computer Fraud (Felony – One Count)
- L.R.S. 27:260 – Gaming Prohibited for Persons Under 21 (Misdemeanor – One Count)
On Thursday, Boutte was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail on the aforementioned charges.
The investigation is ongoing, and there could be more charges.
Police did not reveal how much money Boutte wagered.
Boutte was selected in the 6th round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He caught just 2 passes for 19 yards as a rookie.
