NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans (3-1) announced on gameday that they will rest Zion Williamson when the team hosts the Detroit Pistons (2-3) at the Smoothie King Center on Thursday, 7 p.m.
Williamson, who scored 20 points in the Pels' 110-106 win over the Thunder (3-2) Wednesday night Oklahoma City, is averaging 21.5 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the field.
Fellow starting forward Brandon Ingram is listed as questionable due to a sore right knee sustained in a Game 2 win over the Knicks.
Others on the injury report, include:
Joes Alvarado, right ankle sprain – out
Naji Marshall, right knee contusion – out
Trey Murphy III, left knee partial meniscectomy – out
Both Alvarado and Marshall will be re-evaluated within the next two weeks. Meanwhile, Murphy, who had pre-season surgery on his left knee in early September, was expected to miss 10-12 weeks.
The Pelicans have four regular-season games remaining before hosting the Houston Rockets in the NBA In-Season Tournament group stage opener on Friday, Nov. 10.
