Zion Williamson out against Wizards due to sore ankle – considered 'day-to-day'

WASHINGTON — New Orleans Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson will not play against the 3-19 Wizards in Washington on Wednesday night.

The Pelicans announced on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the 23-year-old, fourth-year pro who sustained a left ankle sprain and will miss the game.

According to WWL Louisiana media partner Nola.com, Pelicans head coach Willie Green downplayed the severity of the injury that happened with 4:51 remaining in the team's 121-107 win over Minnesota on Monday.

“His ankle is getting better,” said Green. “He will be out tonight. His ankle is fine. Day to day.”

Williamson, who scored a season-high 36 points against the Timberwolves, is currently shooting 58.4 percent and averaging 22.9 points, 4.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds in 20 games this season.

The two-time NBA All-Star missed the majority of last season and all of the season before due to injury.

The Pelicans are 13-11 overall with a 10-9 Western Conference record.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
