Trey Murphy III still questionable as Pelicans go for five in a row

Murphy has missed the last three games due to tendonitis in his left knee.

NEW ORLEANS — The Pelicans (21-14) are hoping to extend their four-game win streak with a victory over the visiting Los Angeles Clippers (21-12) on Friday.

But to do so, they may be without Trey Murphy III who was listed as questionable for the Western Conference matchup.

Murphy has missed the last three games due to tendonitis in his left knee.

The third-year forward made his season debut on Dec. 1 due to recovery from a meniscus injury he sustained during an offseason workout in September.

In 12 games played, the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft is averaging 14.8 points per game, four rebounds and 1.7 assists.

In other news, the Pelicans recalled E.J. Liddell from the Birmingham Squadron, the team’s NBA G League affiliate, and listed forward Matt Ryan (right elbow surgery) as out.

With Liddell being recalled, the Pels announced that guard Kira Lewis Jr. has been assigned to Squadron.

Lewis averaged 3.0 points, 1.3 assists and 0.9 rebounds in 14 games with New Orleans.

The 13th overall pick in the 2020 draft will be available for Friday's game against the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Smoothie King Center.
