NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon is leaving the team to become the president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons.
The news comes from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, who posted Thursday on X (formerly Twitter) that sources said the Pistons were working on a deal with Langdon to oversee the organization.
"ESPN Sources: The Detroit Pistons have landed on Trajan Langdon to become the franchise’s new President of Basketball Operations and sides are beginning work on a deal for New Orleans’ GM to oversee organization," Wojnaroski posted.
The former New Jersey Nets assistant GM served as the GM in New Orleans for the last five years and was second in command behind Pelicans Vice President David Griffin.
While Griffin had the more high-profile role, Langdon seemed content to not be in the spotlight. However, he was well-respected in the organization and is best known for his abilities as a talent evaluator.
Langdon is a former Duke and NBA player, who also played professionally in Europe.
Pels beat writer Christian Clark, who works for WWL Louisiana media partners at Nola.com reported after Wojnarowski's post that Pelicans assistant general manager Bryson Graham is now a leading contender to take over from Langdon upon his departure.
