Pelicans promote from within, name new GM and Senior VP of Basketball Operations

Bryson Graham enters his 15th season with the Pelicans, his first as general manager after serving the previous five seasons as assistant GM.

NEW ORLEANS — A month after Trajan Langdon left to become the president of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons, the New Orleans Pelicans promoted longtime team employee Bryson Graham to general manager.

The Pelicans made the announcement on Tuesday regarding Graham, who has served as the team's assistant GM for the past five seasons, as well as the hiring of Jon Moul as the team's senior director of cap and strategy.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed

“Over his 14 NBA seasons, Bryson has built a stellar reputation throughout the NBA,” Pelicans Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations David Griffin said of Graham entering his 15th year with the organization. “First and foremost, he is recognized for the strength of his character. His work ethic, basketball acumen, leadership ability and eye for talent have contributed immeasurably to our growth as a franchise. I couldn’t be happier to see him assume the role of general manager of the New Orleans Pelicans.

“We are equally thrilled to welcome Jon to our organization and look forward to adding his experience, creativity and knowledge to our front office.”

During his time in New Orleans, Graham has served as one of the organization’s key talent evaluators of players at both the professional, collegiate, and international levels, assisting with the team’s year-round preparation for the NBA draft, free agency and trades.

Prior to joining the Pelicans, Graham was a graduate assistant for the Texas A&M men’s basketball team following a three-year playing career at A&M.

Moul joins the Pelicans after spending the last seven seasons with the Charlotte Hornets in various basketball operations roles, most recently as director of basketball strategy & legal affairs.

The Pelicans also announced the promotion of Swin Cash to Senior Vice President of  Basketball Operations, making her the highest-ranking woman in an NBA  front office.

Cash is already in the Naismith Hall of Fame from her days as a player where she won two national championships at UConn.  The two-time Olympic gold medalist also won three WNBA championships in her 15 years as a pro.

Meanwhile, the opening round of the NBA Draft begins on Wednesday, June 26.
