Pelicans: Jose Alvarado set to return, Matt Ryan out at least 10 days

Alvarado averaged 9 points in 61 games played last season.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans fan favorite Jose Alvarado will make his season debut tonight.

"It's exciting to be back," Alvarado said during the shootaround on Monday.

The 25-year-old point guard missed the latter half of the 2022-2023 season due to a stress fracture in his right tibia and then suffered an ankle injury during an off-season workout.

Alvarado averaged 9 points in 61 games played last season. He will look to provide a boost to the team's backcourt.

“I just hope I get a steal or an excitement play,” Alvarado said.

The New Orleans Pelicans added Matt Ryan to their injury list on Monday. Ryan strained his right calf during Saturday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is expected to be out for 10-14 days.

C.J. McCollum, Trey Murphy, and Larry Nance Jr. are also all out.

The Pelicans host the Sacramento Kings on Monday night at 7 p.m.
