Pelicans guard undergoes surgery to repair left knee

Daniels is currently 10th in the league with 1.4 steals per game.

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Pelicans announced on Thursday that second-year guard Dyson Daniels underwent a successful meniscectomy to repair a torn lateral meniscus on his left knee.

According to the Pels, the surgery was performed by Dr. Brian Cole of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush University.

The 20-year-old Australian, who was taken as the eighth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, will be re-evaluated in four weeks. The team said they expect the former NBA G League Ignite star to make a full recovery.

His last game played was in a losing effort to the Lakers (Feb. 9), in which Daniels hit two of three 3-pointers (66.7 percent) en route to 7 points in 27 minutes, with a single rebound, assist, block, and steal.

Over 52 games played, including 15 starts, Daniels was averaging 5.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 21.9 minutes per game this season.

Daniels is currently 10th in the league with 1.4 steals per game.

The Pelicans (33-22) are coming off a 133-126 home win over the Washington Wizards (9-45) on Wednesday. New Orleans hosts the Houston Rockets (24-30) following the NBA All-Star break on Thursday, Feb. 22.
