Report: Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray broke his hand in season opener

Murray had 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds against the Chicago Bulls.

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray broke his left hand in Wednesday night's season opener against the Chicago Bulls, according to ESPN Senior Insider Shams Charania.

"Tests confirm a fractured left hand for Pelicans guard Dejounte Murray, sources tell ESPN," Charania said in a tweet. "Murray is now sidelined for an extended period of time."

Murray had 14 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebounds in his first game as a Pelican.

Brandon Ingram scored 33 points, icing the game with a baseline turnaround jumper with 1:46 to go, and the New Orleans Pelicans overcame Zion Williamson's absence to defeat the Chicago Bulls 123-111 on Wednesday night in both clubs' season opener.

Williamson was ruled out shortly before the game because of an illness, marking his 207th missed regular-season game since he was drafted No. 1 overall in 2019.

Zach LaVine scored 27 points, and Nikola Vucevic had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulls, who trailed for most of the second half and by as many as 16 points in the fourth quarter.

The Pelicans will be back on the floor Friday night in Portland to play the Trail Blazers.
