New Orleans Pelicans get Josh Richardson in deadline deal with Spurs

The Pelicans traded for Graham before the 2021 season hoping he would add some much needed shooting to the roster.

NEW ORLEANS — The Pelicans made a last-minute deal before the NBA's trade deadline, moving Devonte Graham and four second-round picks to San Antonio for Josh Richardson.

The Athletic's Sham Charania was first to report the deal.

The Pelicans traded for Graham before the 2021 season hoping he would add some much needed shooting to the roster, but that never panned out in New Orleans. This season, Graham is averaging just 5.3 points per game on 34.7% shooting from beyond the arc.

Richardson is averaging 11.5 points per game on slightly better shooting and brings a bigger option to the Pelicans wing rotation.

The trade is also a salary-dump move for New Orleans with Richardson on a $12 million, one-year deal. Graham is set to make roughly the same amount for each of the next two seasons.
