JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — Ed Reed is as decorated of an athlete as there has ever been in the New Orleans area. He's in the pro football, college football, and Louisiana Sports Hall of Fames.
On Saturday, the Ravens legend joined a group very near and dear to his heart.
"This is very special," Reed said. "I didn't know anything about it."
The Frank Lemon Playground in Jefferson held a ceremony to induct Reed into their Hall of Fame.
Reed grew up in the Shrewsbury neighborhood, playing football, basketball and track for the Lemon Raiders before his illustrious career began at Destrehan High School.
"It was an outlet for me away from things that were going on around the neighborhood," he said. "You know when I was in here [Frank Lemon Playground] or any other gym is essential. It's like being in church, you don't have to worry about things on the outside."
For Reed, he wants to be an advocate for community outlets like his old gym.
"There's so much need for this neighborhood," Reed said.
