HAMMOND, La. — Nicholls Baseball went from the hunters to the hunted this season in the Southland Conference.

All that was left on Saturday was the chance to reclaim the throne.

The defending conference champs were certainly up for the challenge culminating a perfect week with a 15-1 win over fifth-seed McNeese in the Southland Tournament championship game in Hammond, La.

The Cowboys took an early 1-0 lead off a homer, but senior infielder Parker Coddou's three-run shot to the parking lot made it 3-1 Colonels.

Top of the fourth, Gerardo Villarreal and he hits a shot in the gap with two on – both runs come in.

Nicholls led, 5-1.

But this one got out of hand in the 5th. when the Colonels scored six runs capped by Coddou with his second home run of the game.

All that was left was the celebration as Nicholls won by run-rule and claimed back-to-back Southland titles – becoming just the sixth repeat champion in Southland history.

"These moments are so special," said Nicholls head coach Mike Silva. "These guys, I mean, three years ago where this program was to where it is today, I get emotional thinking about it. I'm just really happy for them to get this opportunity – and proud is an understatement."

The Colonels await their regional drawing for the NCAA Baseball Championship which will be announced on the tournament's selection show Monday at 11 a.m. on ESPN 2.
