NEW ORLEANS — The latest Associated Press Top 25 college football poll is out, and both LSU and Tulane moved up following wins in the final week of the regular season.
The Tigers (9-3) climbed one rung to No. 13 after defeating SEC West rival Texas A&M 42-30 in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday.
The Green Wave also advanced one spot to No. 17 with a 29-16 win over the University of Texas-San Antonio at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans last Friday.
While LSU's bowl-season fate hangs in the balance until the conclusion of this week's conference championship games, last year's American Athletic Conference champion Tulane will defend its crown by hosting SMU next Saturday.
The Wave defeated the Mustangs 59-24 in New Orleans last year en route to a 13-2 season that culminated with a Cotton Bowl win over Southern Cal in January.
Tulane (11-1) and SMU (10-2) share identical 8-0 AAC records and have yet to face each other this year.
As for the Top 5 in the poll, Georgia (12-0) remains No. 1, while Michigan (12-0), Washington (12-0), Florida State (12-0) and Oregon (11-1) all move up one following the Wolverines 30-24 win over previous No. 2 Ohio State (11-1), which slipped to No. 6 this week.
