NEW ORLEANS — The LSU Tigers climbed three spots to No. 19 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 college football poll on Sunday.
LSU (5-2) won its second straight game since losing to Ole Miss on Sept. 30 with a 48-18 drubbing of Auburn in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday night.
With the win, the Tigers improve to 4-1 in Southeastern Conference play and find themselves one game back of No. 11 Alabama (6-1, 4-0) for a share of first place in the SEC West Division.
Meanwhile, the Tulane Green Wave (5-1) have re-entered the AP Poll at No. 23 after handing the Memphis Tigers their first loss in the American Athletic Conference on the road Friday night.
The Wave (2-0 in AAC) have won four straight since losing their only game of the season to Mississippi in Yulman Stadium in the second game off the season.
Tulane, who lost just two games last season which culminated with a 46-45 Cotton Bowl win over Heisman Trophy-led Southern Cal in January, is hoping to return to a New Year's Six bowl game for the first time in school history.
The Wave are ranked 24th in the AFCA Coaches Poll, while LSU remains at No. 19.
This week's Top 5 remains virtually unchanged with the exception of Washington, which leapfrogs Oklahoma into the No. 5 spot. Georgia remains No. 1, followed by Michigan, Ohio State and Florida State.
