A man who was apparently trying to get across I-10 in Metairie on foot was struck by two vehicles and killed Monday around 9:30 a.m., according to State Police spokesman Monroe Dillon.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. near eastbound I-10 and Causeway Blvd. Traffic was shut down to a single lane for a period of time and was backed up as far as the Veterans Blvd. exit.
Police said they are unsure why the victim was trying to cross the interstate. He suffered serious injuries and died on the scene.
According to Dillon, two vehicles were traveling eastbound on the span and both struck the pedestrian. Toxicology samples were taken from both of the drivers and the pedestrian.
His identification was being withheld as of 4 p.m. Monday pending the notification of next-of-kin.
An investigation is ongoing.
