Owner and restaurateur of Vincent's Italian Cuisine dies

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans restaurateur and owner of Vincent's Italian Cuisine, Vincent Catalanotto Sr., passed away on Tuesday, according to Nola.com.

He was 70 years old. He died of lung cancer at Ochsner Health Center-Kenner, our partners said.

Catalanotto Sr. was known for his lasagna and cannelloni, and for greeting everyone that came through the restaurant's doors. “He greeted every person at the door for 35 years,” his son Vincent Catalanotto Jr. said.

Catalanotto Sr. was a Nola native and graduated from De La Salle High School.

Before he became a restaurant owner, he was a waiter and bartender.

In 1989, "he took over Metairie eatery in 1989 and named it Vincent’s Italian Cuisine,".

A funeral will be held on Thursday at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. 

Visitation begins at 10 a.m.
