NEW ORLEANS — Beloved patriarch of the Chase Family, Edgar L. "Dooky" Chase III, passed away at 74, the Chase Family Foundation announced Thursday.
Chase III is the son of legendary restaurateurs Edgar Chase Jr. and Leah Chase.
A conference was held on Thursday to remember the lifelong educator and university administrator, who helped mentored thousands of students and young professionals, the family foundation said in a statement.
Edgar Chase IV, son of Edgar L. "Dooky" Chase III, spoke on behalf of the Chase Family and thanked those for their condolences. He said his father passed away from cardiac arrest on Wed., Feb. 21.
"My father was a true son of New Orleans, who embraces and embodied the music, food and culture and people of this city," Chase IV said. " He didn't miss a Jazz Fest, The Symphony and orchestra brought him joy."
A mix of all of The Chase family was there including "Dooky" Chase III's wife, Alva, his sister, Stella and Chase IV's brother Travis.
He went on to talk about his father's role as an educator and community leader, serving on numerous local, state, and regional boards, "focusing on strengthening and improving our community and bringing people together."
"My father's legacy will be the words that he often preached to us. The words of service, love, and liberty for all."
