NEW ORLEANS — The solar eclipse in south Louisiana in 2024 was mostly a dud as the weather fates graced the area with clouds that blocked 80 percent of the sky, though at times it seemed like 100 percent.
Most people trying to get a glimpse were met with frustration, but a few persistent people were fortunate enough to capture images or video of the historic event.
Hope Ann Caulfield got about 90 seconds of good footage from Jean Lafitte around the time of maximum coverage in the area.
Cameras set up at WWL-TV were unable to capture much, if anything in the way of a phenomenon of the skies.
When is the next solar eclipse?
So, if you missed out on the fun, there is another eclipse set for 2045, though there are no guarantees what the forecast will be that day!
There is also a solar eclipse on March 30, 2052, which will provide totality in Grand Isle and Leeville and about 99 percent coverage in New Orleans.
If you are around on May 11, 2078, there will be 100 percent coverage (totality) in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Slidell and most of the areas in between.
