COVINGTON, La. - Life is much different for Darren Sharper the inmate than it was for Darren Sharper sports hero.
Gone now are the days of posh workout facilities and plenty of cash for amenities.
A slice of Sharper's life was obtained in a two-minute video showed the former Pro Bowl player trying to stay in shape by lifting makeshift weights made out of a mop handle and what appears to be laundry bags filled with an unknown material. He is also shown eating, or at least looking at, a meal.
Sharper is seen going through a series of different exercises.
Sharper is currently being housed at the St. Tammany Parish Jail in Covington as he awaits sentencing on the latest plea deal in connection with a series of drug-induced rapes of women in several states.
Closed circuit video footage taken in late December shows Sharper with fellow inmate Josh Hanson being housed in his own tier. In Hanson’s case, six of his immediate family members, and at least four more relatives, work for St. Tammany Sheriff Jack Strain.
Sources with knowledge of jail operations say Hanson and Sharper were housed in the same protective custody tier until some sort of altercation led them to open up a second protective tier for Hanson.
Sharper will be sentenced in June. He previously pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy to distribute drug with the intent to commit rape.
