MIAMI -- A tropical depression has formed off the coast of Belize and forecasters say it is expected to bring as much as five inches of rain to parts of Belize, Guatemala and northern Honduras.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said the Atlantic season's second tropical depression formed Monday. The depression has winds of 35 mph (56 kph). Some weakening is expected after the depression moves over Belize on Monday, but it could strengthen on Tuesday if the center emerges in the Bay of Campeche.

Forecasters say the rains could cause flash flooding, especially in mountainous areas.
