NEW ORLEANS — Much of the southeast Louisiana coast is now under a tropical storm warning as Tropical Storm Barry inches closer to the coast.
Residents who live in the warned areas are likely to feel the impacts of the storm - including heavy rains and flooding - beginning Friday into Saturday.
"Terrebonne Parish is as prepared for this storm as we can be at this time," said Parish President Gordon Dove. "We will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day, and inform the public of developments."
Here are some of the preparations Terrebonne Parish officials have taken ahead of the storm making landfall.
Public Safety
- The parish Emergency Operations Center in Gray, Louisiana is now in full operation
- A voluntary evacuation for all areas of the parish outside of the Morganza hurricane levee and in all Zone 1 areas of the parish will be called on Friday, July 12 at 7 a.m.
- A curfew for the parish will go into effect at 10 p.m. Friday and will last until 10 a.m. Saturday. Law enforcement will be patrolling parish roads.
Infrastructure
- All the floodgates in the parish have been closed
- All 193 pump stations throughout the parish are full operational and are being monitored. Most of the stations are backed up with diesel engines and can be started remotely in case of loss of power
Shelter
Parish residents who evacuate but need shelter can go to the Houma Municipal Auditorium at 880 Verret Street, which will open at 7 a.m. on Friday, July 12. Evacuees must bring food and water, bedding, medicines and baby formula and supplies to last at least three days.
Household pets with shelter evacuees will be accommodated by the parish Animal Shelter.
