Man arrested for cheating in Louisiana fishing tournament

MANY, La. — A north-central Louisiana man was arrested in Sabine Parish after enforcement agents from the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries discovered he allegedly committing fraud during a bass fishing tournament last weekend.

According to the LDWF, 38-year-old Aaron Moreau, of Pollack, placed 2.59 pounds of lead weights in a fish he caught before the Big Bass Splash Tournament weigh-in at the Toledo Bend Reservoir on Friday, May 17.

Agents obtained a warrant for Moreau's arrest after the Grant Parish native fled the scene following the attempted fraud.

However, Moreau eventually turned himself in to the LDWF on Wednesday and he was transported to the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

Fishing contest fraud brings up to a $3,000 fine and one year in jail.

The event offered $500,000 in guaranteed cash and prizes.
