HOLDEN, La. — A fatal crash involving three vehicles on Interstate 12 East in Holden, La., claimed the life of a 53-year-old Hammond man shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the Louisiana State Police, a preliminary investigation revealed that Edward Barker's 2017 Dodge Challenger was struck by a 2017 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by 55-year-old Rodney Thompson before being spun around and impacted by a 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer also traveling east.

Thompson is believed to have lost control of the Ram pickup truck and entered the median before re-entering the eastbound lanes and striking Barker's Challenger.

Barker was transported to a hospital for treatment where he later succumbed to his injuries.

No word yet as to the condition of Thompson and the Freightliner operator.

The LSP said standard toxicology samples were taken from all the drivers involved, and will be submitted for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
