BATON ROUGE, La. — On Wednesday, Governor Jeff Landry held a bill signing for Senate Bill 255 at the State Capitol in Baton Rouge to create a second majority-black Supreme Court seat in Louisiana.

SB 255 was introduced by Baton Rouge native and Louisiana Senator Cleo Fields.

“Today, we fulfilled our responsibility and ensured the people of Louisiana will have a fair, democratic, and equally representative judiciary," said Landry upon signing SB 255, which was signed by House Speaker Phillip DeVillier last Thursday, April 25.

"I appreciate Senator Cleo Fields, Attorney General Liz Murrill, the Supreme Court justices, Representative Mike Johnson, and the members of the Black Caucus for their hard work on this bill."
