St. Charles Parish preparations ahead of Tropical Storm Barry

From trash pick-up to transportation, here's what you need to know.

NEW ORLEANS — Several areas along the Louisiana coast are now bracing for impact from Tropical Storm Barry as it inches closer to making landfall. 

Those areas are likely to feel the impacts of the storm - including heavy rains and flooding - beginning Friday night into Saturday.

Here are the preparations St. Charles Parish is making ahead of Tropical Storm Barry.

City Government

  • St. Charles Parish Government offices will be closed July 12. All essential personnel should report to work.
  • Divison "D", Judge M. Lauren Lemmon will not hold court on July 11 or 12. All cases will be rescheduled and all parties will be notified of future dates. 
  • St. Charles Parish Clerk of Court's office will be closed on Thursday, July 11 and will not reopen until Monday, July 15.
  • The Ormond Spray Park will be closed on Friday, July 12 and will not reopen until Monday, July 15.

Garbage

  • Garbage collection will happen July 12 at 3 a.m. Residents are advised to refrain from putting out large items and tree limbs in front of their homes, and are asked to pull in their trash cans after serviced.

Infrastructure

  • Please call 1-800-ENTERGY for information on power outages.

Shelter

The Edward A. Dufresne Community Center will be opened for residents to shelter in place beginning July 12 at 8 a.m.

Residents should be prepared to take care of themselves without help for several days. They should bring with them important ID documents, personal items such as clothing and toiletries, a small pillow per person and an extra blanket, personal medication and a first-aid kit.
