Small plane crash lands in Lake Pontchartrain

A plane that had apparently run out of fuel on an approach to the Lakefront Airport, landed in Lake Pontchartrain Friday afternoon.

NEWORLEANS- Aplane that had apparently run out of fuel on an approach to the Lakefront Airport, landed in Lake Pontchartrain Friday afternoon.

Asource with the Causeway said the plane was going cross country and was trying to land on the east-west runway when the plane ran out of fuel.

The pilot was able to crash land the plane in the water near the lakefront and then he swam to shore, unharmed, according to the source.

Louis Capo of the Levee District said the plane went down near the Ted Hickey Bridge. Capo said the pilot was the only person in the plane.

A person who said they witnessed the incident told Eyewitness News that the pilot was unharmed and refused treatment.
