SLIDELL, La. — The Slidell Police Department says a 12-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle on Father’s Day.
Police got multiple 911 calls around 1 p.m. about a child being hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Fremaux Avenue and 10th Street.
According to investigators, the boy ran into the road chasing a dog and was hit by a Ram 2500 pickup truck that was driving east on Fremaux Avenue.
Police said he had severe injuries and was taken to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans.
"Traffic investigators are still analyzing evidence and witness statements," Slidell Police said in a release.
At this time, police do not suspect impairment or speed to be a factor in the incident.
Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said, “Incidents like this are never easy to comprehend, but even harder when it involves a young child. We are all praying for this young boy, his family, and all those affected by this accident.”
