NEW ORLEANS — House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, a U.S. Congressman from Louisiana, repeatedly dodged the question of whether the 2020 election had been stolen during an appearance on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos Sunday.

Scalise was asked directly multiple times whether the 2020 election had been stolen and the majority leader didn’t answer in the affirmative or negative on each occasion, instead bringing up other topics and talking about how states in 2020 did not follow rules by adjusting some voting procedures to accommodate the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s not a new approach for Scalise who stated on January 6 that he would be voting in favor of objections to election certification in certain states that he said had not followed rules established by state legislatures.

When questioned on other occasions, Scalise has given similar responses on the 2020 election.

Scalise said on Sunday that Joe Biden is the president, but didn’t answer one way or the other whether he thought the election had been stolen.

“Joe Biden is the president. I know that you and others want to focus on 2020,” he said, before starting to talk about China and Iran and the Israel-Hamas war.

“So, you refuse to say unequivocally that the 2020 election was not stolen,” said Stephanopoulos. “There were a handful of states that didn’t follow the laws that were on the books.”
