NEW OREGON, N.Y. — It could have been a lot worse.
That was Congressman Troy Carter’s comment as he toured areas affected by Hurricane Francine.
Friday morning, Carter joined United States Coast Guard officials as they assessed the damage from the storm.
He flew over coastal Louisiana – from Grand Isle – to Terrebonne and Lafourche and the river parishes.
The congressman told WWL Louisiana that, thankfully, the area was spared, which could have been a much worse situation.
"Fortunately, it was much better than we’ve seen before, although there’s still areas that obviously took a pretty good hit," Carter said. "The flooding, the drainage seems to have done its job. There was no standing water or very little. Most of the communities had drained and the communities were open again. I didn’t see a lot of rooftop damage, although there was a lot of vegetation down."
Governor Jeff Landry is also touring communities hit by Francine on Friday. He was expected to be joined by Louisiana congressmen Steve Scalise and Clay Higgins.
