BATON ROUGE, La. — Jeff Landry was sworn in as the 57th Governor of Louisiana at the state's capitol on Sunday afternoon.
Landry succeeds John Bel Edwards, who served as the state's previous Governor. Landry has already appointed key officials to his administration, who will help him during his term of office.
Judge Roger Hamilton of the 16th District Court swore in Landry, as he took oath as Louisiana's new governor.
"Again, welcome home. Whenever and wherever people meet crisis, they look to the people of Louisiana," Landry said during his speech.
He said coming together on the steps of Louisiana's capitol is the first step to moving forward and serving Louisiana citizens.
"The place is here and the time is now and the challenge is ours," said Landry.
Landry said he's aware that people seek a government that reflects their values.
"Failure in this state is not an option anymore," Landry said. He said working together with legislature is key to helping Louisiana as a whole.
"You are the people that built this country, for you generate revenue for this state and local government and paved the way for all Louisiana citizens."
