Louisiana's ballot will feature unusual candidate nicknames

The nicknames certainly draw the eye.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana's fall election ballot will again be filled with colorful nicknames.

In the governor's race, Democratic incumbent John Bel Edwards and his two major Republican challengers, U.S. Rep. Ralph Abraham and businessman Eddie Rispone, may be the most well-known. But GOP contender Patrick "Live Wire" Landry might draw some eyeballs with that nickname.

Among legislative races, "Fox Rich" Richardson, of New Orleans, is running for Senate. House contenders include "Phil Cowboy" Lemoine in Ville Platte; Paul "Polo" Carter in Carencro; and Belden "Noonie Man" Batiste in New Orleans.

"Mike Chicken Commander" Boyter is running for Caddo Parish sheriff.

One gubernatorial candidate without a moniker on the ballot is Gary Landrieu. He's threatening to sue because the secretary of state's office wouldn't let his name appear as Gary "Go Gary" Landrieu.
