NEW ORLEANS — After surpassing 270 electoral votes, Donald Trump is projected to return to the White House in a successful re-election bid to become the 47th U.S. President over Vice-President Kamala Harris.
The polarizing President-elect, who served as the 45th President before falling short to Joe Biden in 2020, declared victory early Wednesday morning before the Associated Press officially projected him as the winner.
"We're going to help our country heal," the 74-year-old Trump stated. "Every single day, I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body."
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who won another 2-year term in Congress with his Louisiana First Congressional District win on Tuesday, praised Trump's win.
“Congratulations to President Trump on his overwhelming victory to become the 47th President of the United States<" Scalise stated. "With such a strong electoral victory, the American people gave a mandate to President Trump to fix the problems facing our country.
“I look forward to working with President Trump to lower food and energy prices for families, secure America’s border, and restore peace through strength," he continued. "We have much work to do, and we will quickly get to work for those hard-working families who voted for this change so we can Make America Great Again.”
