What you need to know for early voting in Louisiana

The presidential election is expected to drive voter turnout. Time will tell how many Louisianans show up for the presidential election.

NEW ORLEANS — Forty-seven states will offer early in-person voting this election season, and as of Friday, Louisiana is in that number.

Early voting began at 8:30 a.m. Friday morning and wrapped up at 6 p.m. If you intend to early vote in Orleans Parish, you may want to avoid City Hall.

WWL Louisiana's Reporter Lily Cummings explains where to go instead.

Whether you second line or stroll, it's time to early vote in Louisiana. "This election is going to change the whole world," said Williams, an Orleans Parish voter.

The presidential election is expected to drive voter turnout. Time will tell how many Louisianans show up for the presidential election.

In October of last year, as we voted for governor, less than 40 percent of voters showed up. Orleans Parish voters took advantage of a new polling location at the Tremé Recreation Community Center.

"You don't have to worry about traffic," said Dennis Ward, an Orleans Parish voter. "You don't have to worry about parking. Or paying for parking."

The city says it's temporary for this election due to Taylor Swift coming to town next weekend.

"Traditionally City Hall is an early voting location," said Darren Lombard, Court Clerk for Orleans Parish. "It still is, but we've added another early voting location just because of the anticipated crowds that will be here throughout the day and night," he said.

By election day, voting machines will be placed at polling locations across the state — but officials are recommending you vote early and research your ballot before you get to the polls.

"We may have lines because of it being a presidential election," Lombard said.

And don't forget your ID.

"I think it's an important issue, just get out and do the vote."
