LOUISIANA, USA — Voters in Louisiana went to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5 to decide races on the local, state and federal level.
Statewide, Louisiana voters decided on one Constitutional Amendment, which is Act 408. The amendment would allocate revenues that the state receives from oil and gas production on the coast must be deposited into the Coastal Protection and Restoration Fund.
Orleans Parish
Voters in Orleans Parish decided on two Home Rule Charter amendments. The first was for the city to create a Housing Trust Fund, aiming to help aid the affordable housing crisis.
It would dedicate an amount equal to 2-percent of the General Fund to the trust, which would fund affordable housing, rehab and renovation projects, and provide funding for affordable rental assistance and other housing needs.
The second proposed charter amendment focused on Workers' rights. It put forth a Workers Bill of Rights and the council said it was symbolic in standing against anti-worker policies and treatment in Louisiana.
Jefferson Parish
In Jefferson Parish, voters were asked to decide on a Home Rule Charter amendment, which deals with the administrative organization of the parish. It considered converting “special non-competitive limited term” employees into “unclassified” or “at-will” jobs.
