Livingston sheriff re-elected after challenger disqualified

Jason Ard will remain sheriff of Livingston Parish after the other candidate in the race, Walter Ray Wesley, an independent from Watson, was disqualified Tuesday.

LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. — A Louisiana sheriff's has been re-elected to a third term after his only opponent in the race was disqualified.

News outlets report Jason Ard will remain sheriff of Livingston Parish after the other candidate in the race, Walter Ray Wesley, an independent from Watson, was disqualified Tuesday. The Louisiana Secretary of State's website confirms Wesley's name was struck from the ballot.

Ard, a Republican, announced the news in a post on his Facebook page .

Ard says his mission as sheriff has always been to "enhance the quality of life for all Livingston Parish citizens by reducing crime and making the parish a safe place to live, work and raise a family."

Election Day is Saturday, Oct. 12.
