NEW ORLEANS – The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office reported that a deputy on duty at the Old Parish Prison facility this evening collapsed and later died at the hospital.
At 9:37 p.m., the deputy was one of several deputies answering a call for assistance from another deputy. He went up a flight of stairs to the floor above and collapsed at 9:38 p.m.
OPSO medical staff was called immediately. EMS personnel arrived at 9:40 p.m. The deputy was routed to the hospital at 9:49 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the hospital at 10:32 p.m.
