A new license plate benefiting a historic Northshore landmark is now available for Louisiana drivers.

The new Tchefuncte Lighthouse license plate debuted at the Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles and benefits the iconic lighthouse in Madisonville. Proceeds from the plate sales will go toward preservation and restoration of the lighthouse as well as protecting the property and surrounding coastline.

The money will also be used to rebuild the pier and breakwater to help protect against storm surges.

The plate was designed by graphic artist Michael Massel and inspired by photographs taken by Anthony 'Chopper' Leone.

Drivers do not have to wait for their current registration to expire, and the OMV will prorate the plate.
