In death, Buddy the dog knocked out the final item on his bucket list: helping other animals in need.
The 7-year-old dog, who had terminal cancer, completed nearly every goal on his bucket list before being put to rest this week, from eating a full string of sausages to getting a famous Cricketer to throw the ball for him. His owner, Emily Mochan, told ABC Brisbane that she was sending his toys and the money they raised in a gofundme campaign to the local SPCA.
"All his toys will go to shelter dogs ... even though he's not here with others he's still helping others," she said.
Mochan broke the news to the nearly 12,000 followers of the "Buddy's Bucket List" Facebook page on Thursday: "Although it breaks my heart, I'm glad to say he was laid to rest yesterday morning at 10am before he started really suffering. He went peacefully with no pain, while surrounded by friends."
When Buddy was diagnosed in January, he was given four to eight weeks to live. Mochan created the bucket list and launched a Facebook page chronicling their adventures, which quickly gained nearly 12,000 "likes." The gofundme campaign, launched Feb. 15, raised $2,500 in about a month's time.
Buddy lived long enough to nearly complete the bucket list, which grew to include about, including eating the sausages, sitting in a cop car, paw painting on a canvas and riding in a convertible with the top down, according to the Facebook page.
Buddy isn't the only dog who set out on a series of adventures in his final days. Brittney Lampert's 13-year-old black lab, Cooper, gained internet fame over his bucket list, which began after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Cooper died on Oct. 20, days after his story went viral. A man and his fiance took his terminally ill dog, Poh, on a similar adventure last year, traveling across the country.
