NEWORLEANS - Alexandra Cranford is the weekend meteorologist for the Eyewitness News Forecast Team. She also contributes to weathercasts and special projects for other newscasts during the week on air and on WWLTV.com.
As a native of the New Orleans area, Alexandra learned early that weather has a tremendous effect on people's lives. Hurricanes Katrina, Ike and Gustav introduced her to how powerful weather can be. Those storms sparked a fascination with weather that led to her career in meteorology.
'Growing up on the Northshore, I rode out almost every hurricane in my house with my family,' she said. 'I know the experience of relying on WWL to keep me informed during a storm. I am proud to now work with a fantastic team of meteorologists at a legendary station like WWL,' she said.
Alexandra came to WWL-TV in October 2012 from weather forecasting jobs in Monroe and Shreveport.
She attended St. Margaret Mary School and Slidell High School and graduated summa cum laude in 2009 from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She is now a graduate student atMississippi State University, pursuing a Master of Science in applied meteorology.
Alexandra has also worked as a NASA Science and Engineering Apprentice in the Naval Research Laboratory's Office of Oceanography. She also served as Chief Forecaster for LSU's campus news program and worked in a Biological Sciences Laboratory as part of her LSU Chancellor's Scholarship.
She has received awards and scholarships from groups like the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters, Women in Media and the LSU Honors College.
When she's not working, you might find Alexandra jogging, playing tennis or studying her meteorology books. She also loves reading, cooking and spending as much time as possible outside - in almost all types of weather.
