Young WWL fan brightens the day with a visit to the studio, meets WWL Louisiana anchors

His mother says that watching and repeating the news helped him find his words and it really helped him come out of his shell.

NEW ORLEANS — A very special guest brightened up the day when he visited the WWL Louisiana studios on Tuesday.

Russell Landry is a six-year-old with a unique love of WWL and the news the Morning Show anchors and reporters bring to him every day.

As Journalists, we often find there's more to the story than meets the eye -- and that was the case with Russell. He had some developmental delays, but through his family's morning routine of turning on the TV, his mother Melanie Landry said Russell found his voice.

His mother says that watching and repeating the news helped him find his words. It helped him repeat words, it helped him learn to become verbal, and really come out of his shell.

Russell's mom says his therapists, and the St. Charles Parish Public School System --- all know about his love of the news -- and they use that --as a tool in his special way of learning.

Russell uses laminated cards of our team, they are used to learn all sorts of things, like identifying the boys and girls, he knows who an anchor is and who is a meteorologist, and he's learning whose name starts with what letter.

Russell and his mother toured the WWL Louisiana studio and got the chance to see what it is like to bring the news every morning.

Russell may have found his words watching us but it was him, not his words, that melted our hearts that day.
