Woman burned to death inside New Orleans home

Police believe the fire was set by someone else and are investigating it as an arson.

NEW ORLEANS -- A 60-year-old woman was burned to death inside her home in New Orleans East late Friday night in what investigators described as a possible arson.

According to the New Orleans Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched to 4720 Corrine St. around 10:39 p.m. to put out a fire. When they arrived they found the victim next to a chair with 90 percent of her body burned.

She was pronounced dead on the scene. Her identity was not immediately released.

According to the NOFD, the fire did not spread beyong the victim and the chair in which she sat. Police believe the fire was set by someone else and are investigating it as an arson.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine a cause of death.

The investigation is being led by the NOFD and Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office. The NOPD is also assisting.
