One person died in a Franklinton housefire, according to WPSO. Washington Parish had been battling two fires at once on Thursday, both have been contained.

FRANKLINTON, La. — Law enforcement in Washington Parish are investigating what caused the fire that killed a person in Franklinton on Thursday.

The deadly housefire in Franklinton was one of two fires, that firefighters battled on Thursday. Another burned in the village of Angie.

WPSO issued a summons for a person they said they believe was involved in the Angie fire.

"Firefighters will continue to monitor the area to ensure that the fire does not reignite," Sheriff Randy Seal said. "Please be reminded that Washington Parish is under a burn ban due to the extreme heat and dry conditions."

According to Seal, the WPSO first learned about the Franklinton fire that burned on H.C. Rushing Road off of the 21000 block of John D. Wood Road at around 4 p.m.

One person was unaccounted for in the Franklinton fire Thursday night, and deputies soon learned that the 72-year-old homeowner with mobility challenges had been killed in the fire.

These are among five fires that the parish has dealt with in the last two weeks, according to parish officials.
