WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The Washington Monument has reopenend after the elevator was stuck Tuesday afternoon at 280 feet, according to the National Park Service.
The Washington Monument was closed, however reopened at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The National Park Service said that 19 people who were on the elevator were evacuated safely along with 23 people on the observation level. Everyone was evacuated via the stairs.
It was reported that people were stranded at the top while firefighters worked to remove those people from the elevator.
Technicians finished their inspection and certified that the elevator is safe to resume operations. Technicians are still waiting on the cause of the service disruption.
