Two workers injured after reported gas explosion at Geismar plant

A Baton Rouge General spokesperson told WBRZ that one of the fire victims is in serious condition with 15 percent burns.

GEISMAR, La. — Two people were injured after a reported hydrogen gas explosion at a Chevron plant in Geismar, according to our partners at WBRZ.

Both victims were taken to the hospital by Airmed with burn injuries. WBRZ says the explosion happened around 8:30 a.m.

 A Baton Rouge General spokesperson told WBRZ that one of the fire victims is in serious condition with 15 percent burns and the other is in good condition with two percent burns and will be discharged to continue treatment with outpatient care. 

The fire was fully extinguished around 9:40 a.m. and the plant was shut down for the day.
