NEW ORLEANS — Two beloved cougars at Audubon Zoo passed away due to severe kidney disease and failure, the zoo posted on its Facebook page Thursday.

Cougars Pontchartrain and Maurepas were 16 years old. "They both loved to lounge in the sun, eat their favorite foods like beef tips and knuckle bones, play with cabbage heads, shred boxes, and rub all over stinky smells from other animals," Audubon said in a post on Facebook.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Pontchartrain and Maurepas, Audubon Zoo’s cougars....
