Tree crashes into two homes in Abita after strong storms sweep Louisiana

Strong winds knocked a tree down earlier in the day. It knocked the power out and fell into the street, but parish crews were able to repair and clear debris.

ABITA SPRINGS, La. — A string of severe storms passing on the Northshore Monday, caused a massive tree to crash into two homes. It happened on the corner of Daisy Street and Hwy 36 near Abita Springs.

St. Tammany Fire District 8, Chief of Operations Eric Givens was on the scene with crews working to cut tree limbs and cover the homes with tarps to prevent any further damage.

Givens said they initially got the call at 12:45 am on Tuesday. Both homes had families inside. One home had 3 kids and three adults, the other had two kids and two adults inside.

"Everybody who was inside of the residence were able to get out of the residence by themselves. There were no reported injuries, everybody is doing okay. They have been staying at families houses," Givens said.
