Overnight rain causes street flooding for parts of New Orleans area

As much as six inches of rain fell on portions of New Orleans.

NEW ORLEANS — The National Weather Service has issued a 'Street Flood Advisory' until 7 a.m. for areas around Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes. 

According to WWL Louisiana meteorologist Payton Malone, communities currently affected include English Turn, Poydras, Belle Chasse and Violet as up to half a foot of rain fell as storms stalled and dropped up to six inches overnight. 

The NWS said street flooding had been reported around these areas and for motorists to please be cautious and use alternate routes to avoid flooded roadways.

As of 7:30 a.m., water continued to recede.
