NEW ORLEANS — Making an exception to a recent ordinance, the New Orleans city council decided to OK the use of TP for the Krewe of Tucks.
The bathroom-themed Krewe has been slinging toilet paper since the 1970s. Since then, other Krewes joined in with their own specialty toilet paper throws.
However, after a paper stayed inside trees longer than usual after Mardi Gras last year, the city passed an ordinance to ban toilet paper throws from carnival season entirely.
"The Council believes it to be in the interest of the health, safety and welfare of the city and its visitors to prohibit the use of toilet paper and similar products as carnival throws," The ordinance reads. "Except for the Krewe of Tucks."
The exception still allows for some restrictions for Tucks, with the council mandating environmental friendly bathroom tissue.
"The Council asks Tucks riders to utilize paper that is fully biodegradable, marine grade," The city council said on Thursday. "Or made of the most readily degradable form of paper commercially available to mitigate the negative effects on surrounding neighborhoods."
